Blokey Enough???

This what has happened to Tyler's quilt so far - maybe not to be, though I am happy with it! Perhaps not blokey enough for an 18 year old - though Tyler is not blokey - just gorgeous, so what do you think?
I don't usually use 'homespun' type fabrics - though, this black border fabric is Emma Louise - just gorgeous and about the best quality I have ever seen in Australia in latter years. I love, love the wonky cabins and could add extra borders to make it larger for Tyler - but, then I think - maybe leave it as it is and let it be a Comfort Quilt? It is 54" square, so a reasonable size as is - maybe a funky young teenage girl would like it!
Should I add the extra borders and make it up to say 64"? Have another very important project calling, so must away and stop dithering about this quilt!
I'm feeling fairly well today - thanks for your kind thoughts - hugs♥

  1. hi lurline,
so pleased you are feeling better today!
yes, that wonderful quilt is blokey enough, but could also be given to a girl. for a guy though, i'd make it it bit larger...that's just me though. you've done a fantastic job regardless.

  2. I think I would like another border to make it larger. I like a quilt big enough to wrap up in without the feet sticking out. I do like your wonky log cabin blocks. I have a quilt top made with some. I need to get it quilted. It is in Christmas colors, so no hurry.

  5. Hi Lurline,
Its hard to know if the quilt is suitable I don't know the recipient. If you are worried maybe you could give him the option off another quilt if he thinks this one is not his style. I'm sure it wouldn't be a chore to make another quilt. Any excuse will do.

  9. So pleased to see you today, glad your feeling a lot better.
I think it's great and perfectly blokey enough for Tyler..
An extra couple of borders would be great, makes it a bit more his wrap around size...I still think he may have a bit more growing to do..look at your two big boys!

  10. Gorgeous quilt; anyone (even a bloke!) would love it. My friends' boys love a quilt to curl up on the couch and watch telly with; couch/lap quilts are definitely a comfort thing. The size depends how long his legs are and just how much of himself he likes to snuggle under a quilt!

  11. Lurline it is a wonderful quilt for any young man.
If he is tall then add the border if not, let it be. It looks great.
    Glad you are feeling better.

  12. Hi Lurline...I can make a comment, the past few days I have had a bit of a problem...love the quilt If I was making that for my boys when they were 18 I am sure they would have loved it...

  13. Love how you did the sashing and cornerstones. When I made my son a quilt for his high school graudation his request was "make it big enough." I did.

  16. I think the quilt is terrific as is ... but if you wanted to add another border maybe you could make it up from scraps leftover from the blocks (??).
Love it .... and so glad you're feeling better :o).
    Hugs,

  19. Hi Lurline! :D
Have missed catching up with you the past while or so. Firstly sorry you've been unwell...my son has asthma as well and at times it's very difficult for him...I don't know if this is all for you but get well dear lady!
I think the quilt is definitely blokey enough for Tyler, but I have 2 long boys and they go for the longer quilts, so I'd vote for adding borders...Love it!
    What're you thinking now?
    hugs
