My Studio!

Just joking! The Aussie girls seem to be showing their workplaces, so here's mine! Actually it is the formal lounge room of our home, just inside the front door with views to lovely neighbourhood homes and lawns and my rose garden! It was hard to make the move into it, but now I appreciate the lovely light, bright room so much - aka My Studio!

Nothing too formal here - lots and lots of fabrics hidden in every nook and cranny! I have been talking to Janet of Quiltalott and have been discussing some sort of film to go on the windows to protect all my goodies from the bright light!

WIP Corner - see the 9-patches, little baskets, linen fabrics and the box has current 'wanna do' patterns!
Another junky spot - two large boxes of repros, a pair of Mums pyjama pants to have new elastic inserted (I tell her I'm a quilter, not a mender!).

Imagine the bright sunshine in the backgound with the drapes just ajar! Tuesday I met up with Girlfriends at Woolly Latte - the yarn shop with coffee shop attached, just a delight! We had a great day, three of the girls sat there knitting while sipping coffee, wish I'd taken my camera! I took Missy Perkins for her first outing - quite the star she is! Then I popped next door to Hot Possum and bought the couple of pieces of limey green Kaffe to make the pincushion for the swap. Had to stop by Materialise on the way home to check it out for linens and wow! the 4 on the left were on sale for $12 a metre!
If anyone is still with me - yawn! - who is very experienced in shaggy quilts - tell me, do you think one layer of linen, backed with flanelette, will make a suitably cosy quilt? Or should I go another way? Christine, you should be able to help, thanks - I would appreciate opinions from anyone, thanks!
Off to my local sewing group - I haven't been for ages, so hope I am not ex-communicated! Happy day!

What a wonderful sewing room/studio!! I love all the natural light. My sewing room is in the basement. I can spread out and leave my mess down there. However, the loss of natural light is the price I have to pay for more room. I actually go up stairs in my bedroom to take most of my blog photos. Thanks for sharing.

The knitting with friends while sipping coffee sounds like such fun.
Love your new fabric choices too.

This is a quilters house! I'm envious of the light you have but the film helps cut fading on furniture too. It's lovely to see you have your treaures around you. Missy Perkins likes to go out in style, love the tote.

I love your quilting studio. How fortunate to have that wonderful natural light. My "studio" is in the basement and I never know if it's raining or snowing outside (of course in Michigan anything is possible at any time of the year). Thanks for sharing.

I love those limey green Kaffe fabrics. Just gorgeous. Your studio is very pretty. And looks like you use it too! (V important I think) I think it's clever to utilise the space you have. If I had a formal lounge I would be in there myself! As it is my Bradley and I share a long skinny bedroom. Our bed is in one half and my sewing room is at the other end. It's not ideal I guess, but it's working for now.

lovely homely room.
two layers for shaggy quilts would be fine, if you want something a little warmer, I use flannelette (cheap from Spotlite. Or its also a good way to use up offcuts of batting.
I didn't think I would like the shaggy look, but made one just to try and have made at least 6 since, make super pressies.

I have made several raggy shaggy quilts, mostly with flannel, and cotton but I have not mixed them at all, I would be interested to see how this turns out.Good luck.. and have fun!

Your sewing studio looks like a quilt shop. I'd need my head on a swivel to look at all the lovely things. So neatly arranged too! Oh how I LOVE Mrs. Perkins peeking out of your tote. :o) She fits perfect.

I love having my own space - enjoy yours.

Love your space, it all looks very inviting.

Lurline I find for the raggy even three layers of fabric and no batting will work very well,so anything you want to use up in the middle. Not sure that two layers of fabric are give enough body.

cheers
Christine

Looks much to tidy....lol.
Actually I was looking at the long arm from the Hus family and thinking..why do I have twin beds in the spare bedroom. Why not have that under the window.
Money could be one factor and the desire to have a nice spare room ...which has taken a long time to almost achieve again after Mum moved in.
I do have two double sofa beds so do not know why I hang onto this image of hospitality which really does not happen as much as it used to.
Congratulations.
I am settling the room in after a new computer.
Moggie has seen space on table...also saw mouse on table...thought floor was a better place.
Caught a photo for my blog.
