I discovered about eleven blocks in my linen press - my repro of The Wedding Quilt? unfinished and they would be about twelve years old. Here's my favourite block! It is all hand pieced and I must say I'm really delighted with the accuracy I achieved - the strawberry fabric is my favourite fabric of all times - thank you Patchwork on Stoneleigh who have now sadly closed their doors - correct me if I am wrong, but to my way of thinking they were the first shop in Australia to specialize in selling antique reproduction fabics only.
It is a gorgeous quilt - somewhere in my linen press I have lots of details about the original and I know a lot of you repro girls will be able to fill you in a bit further! It is one of my quilts where I stitched like crazy then ran out of steam. I really like the above four blocks, too - I don't have the desire to finish the quilt and the four blocks together don't look right as the strawberry one seems larger - optical illusion, I think - could I make a small quilt from them! - I could make a nice border - please comment if you have any ideas!

Nice to have you back Lurline, those blocks are beautiful. Do you think you'll go back to them? I have blocks that I haven't touched for nearly 15 years, I love them but I know I'll never, ever finish them...

ReplyDeleteI can relate to what you're thinking on the blocks, there's a lot you could do with them but if it doesn't appeal to you to work with them, just play with your new fabrics. How could you wait to open the parcel??

ReplyDeleteThe blocks are so beautiful and if you have no interest in completing the quilt,(if it were me) I would make a series of four pillows. They can each definitely stand alone and the pillows would bring a touch of Spring and Happy into your home. I love changing out the pillows in our sunroom according to the season. Just a thought. Very pretty! If the blocks were mine, I'd set them on point in a 3x3 setting and then make a simple chain block to go in between them in the setting.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to read that your gorgeous block with the strawberries is 12 years old - it looks so fresh and pretty and that color of blue is everywhere. The blocks together are wonderful - I hope you can figure out what to do with them - it was a treat to see them. :0)

ReplyDeleteGorgeous blocks Lurline ... you always have beautiful work to share. Would be a shame to return those blocks to the cupboard ... perhaps a runner or cushions? If you had 5 blocks the strawberry one could be the centre panel?

I am so glad that you have decided to keep blogging--I really would of missed you if you had stopped. I know sometimes it is alot of work to post--but remember this is your journal to your self too--you can look back and not only read what you have done==you get to see pictures and get to read comments from others about your projects--soooo!!!

They are beautiful blocks.....I think that a perfect sashing/frame with corner stones in a really pretty fabric could set off all the blocks and then you could complete it with a perfect border!
