Donkey Blocks!

Someone recently showed some donkey blocks - sorry! forget who - and they jogged my memory of a UFO! Something else jogged my memory again this morning, so decided to drag these out to show you!

Makes me feel a bit sad and sorry - I put so much thought into the design and the choice of every little piece of fabric and there it is half-finished! Maybe in the New Year, to finish it will become a priority. Somewhere ... there are tiny foundation pieced log cabin blocks and also quite a few Japanese Dollies blocks. I could probably put it together in no time, once I find the missing blocks

A few years ago, our Creative Threads group (now Girlfriends!) decided to do a Recipe Quilt - some of the ingredients being applique, flowers, curved piecing, stars. I think the three circles grouped as they are represent stars in Japanese. Very few of the girls finished their quilts and those who did, the quilts were stunning!

Oh, well, move on Girl! ... off to finish piecing Split 9-Patch quilt - will show you soon - seems to be coming along okay.

Hugs!

I remember those blocks! I remember the recipe quilt. I have one unfinished block from that project - never got any further. Never mind, it was probably too structured for my chaos. Love the little donkey blocks though. Where did you get the pattern - or did you draft it yourself?

Oh Lurline!!! I LOVE those blocks!!! Those Donkey blocks are soooooo me! We live on a farm and on my sidebar on my blog I have a photo of Ole Jim, our MULE! He is like a 1200 pound puppy, we don't even keep him in a fence he just walks around following us everywhere! He is my big baby!!! I catch myself talking to him like he is a person sometimes. Those blocks remind me so much of him!!! :) I love them!

I love the way you put your mules together. I am amazed at all your baskets. They are so fun to get as gifts.

Awesome blocks Lurline! I am wondering what this "Recipe Quilt" that you mentioned is all about, and very curious about your "split 9-patch"...
Happy stitchings!

The person was Stephanie at Loft Creations. I loved that quilt! Your blocks are so cute. As soon as I saw that picture I thought of her quilt too. Unfinished blocks do make us a little sad don't they. I have a smallish plastic box that I put all my ufos in and I've gotten several out over the years and finished them. I am always happy to put the blocks to "rest" in a quilt. You will finish them. I'm certain.
