Opinions, Please!

My goodness - I too am finding great difficulty uploading photos these days - tricky and manipulation needed! I had such a lovely day out with Girlfriends yesterday, so motivation is high today!
 -

Here we have a pretty Dresden I made perhaps 9 years ago - it is basted, ready to be hand stitched and that's not going to happen - my life has had dramatic changes as the years have past, lots of them wonderful I will say.
This is a fairly large quilt - now should I spend the money and have it custom quilted allowing for a scalloped border, or should I have it simply quilted and spend less money. I will add that the quilt has lots of original Feedsack from the US and even though am these days into modern, I still can find a lot of beauty and am very attached to this quilt - I would welcome comments!

Must tell you about my new Magic Bean Plant - can you see the beans at the base? - supposedly a native to Australia? More of that at a later date if I don't kill it with kindness, lol!

Happy day!

Cool plant! I love your Dresdens, and I say finish it off simply and just get it done! Finished is always good! :0)

Did you hand applique all those plates down?
Did you lovingly piece all those plates?
If so I say go for the custom job and I just adore a scalloped edge on that traditional pattern.
If you ironed them down and machine stitched around them, yeah go ahead and so a simple, cheaper, quilting. I know you paid a small fortune for those feedsacks from the USA. But if you really don't want to mess with either you can send it to me ;0).

Happy Sewing

Dresden's are such a classic. If it were mine, I would keep it simple and let the lovely Dresdens be the focus. There is some amazing machine quilting out there, but I regularly see quilts that are ummm....overquilted, shall we say? It can be a pretty look, but it all comes down to what will make YOU happy! debbie

What a classically beautiful quilt - have it quilted simply as it would have been in the 1930's. Let the colours sing their own song.

Lurline your quilt is just beautiful, the stunning colours in your dresdens are amazing, love that quilt! I think some simple quilting would be perfect. Nat Maida Vale.

Now Lurline I am with Kim. I can see that you have hand appliqued all those gorgeous dresdens. I agree with Debbie too that some of those machine quilted quilts can be over quilted. I think that it deserves a happy medium, Just the right amount as it is a gorgeous quilt one that will shine for years. Love it

Hello Lurline,
I am a long time follower, but I´m not sure if I ever commented before.
Your Dresden quilt is so pretty, as a fan of everything 30s and feedsack, I love it.
What about a combination of a bit hand quilting (maybe big stitch quilting around the Dresdens in colorful threads) and machine quilting (crosshatch in the background or something like this)? It wouldn´t take too much time, add a bit of hand quilting touch to the beautiful quilt, and maybe isn´t too epensive.
I think that´s what I would do.

I think you would be happy with custom quilting and having a quilt you love being finished and able to be used. It's a beauty.
Aren't the bean plants fascinating?

I love your quilt. I love the 30s fabrics, though like you, lately I've been leaning to the modern. Since you like this quilt so much and it will be a treasure I think you should spend the money and get what you want. You will have it for years. Your family will treasure it. I like the idea of the scalloped borders too. Good luck.

I'm a modern gal who adores the feedsacks! I vote for custom quilting to honor those pretty dresdens. Feedsacks always make me smile. It's something about the colors and fun little patterns and designs. Custom quilting...

Go for the custom quilting! It's such a beautiful quilt and deserves it. It's not a lot if money when you consider that it will be a family heirloom. Those bean plants are fun , they look like little forests.

I think a quilt like this calls for hand=quilting, but otherwise custom quilted for sure, it deserves it!

I am no help on the vote, but it sure is precious with all those lovely feedsack pieces. If I had invested a lot of time and money so far in the collection, I probably would put the little extra for the scallop. Let's see, which finish would make you smile the biggest?

I would quilt with monofilament thread so you would have the texture but not see the thread and the emphasis would be on the feedsacks.

It is beautiful, love those fabrics! I say custom quilting, something interesting in the background to compliment the beautiful dresdens.

It is gorgeous...it needs custom quilting for sure! Custom hand quilting would be even better! LOL

Hi! Lurline, Your quilt is amazing, just beautiful. It is an heirloom quilt. I have seen one finished with scollops and it was beautiful. If you like modern go for the happy medium no scollops and a little custom quilting to show up the dresdens..Im agreeing with Patchwork Rose

Your Dresden quilt is beautiful, Lurline. I like how you have the 2 sizes happening. Definitely custom quilt it!
re your magic beans.... They are natives if they have used Castanospermum seeds (known also as the Qld Black Bean tree), which are sold down this way. They are a huge rainforest tree so don't plant them into your garden! lol
