This and That!

Hi Girlfriends! I'm thrilled with the quilting Barb John has done on my Dresden Quilt. It has yet to be bound and then I will spread it out for it all to be seen. I love the quilting and it all looks just as it should - very vintage with lots of original feedsacks.

Just a little sneak peek at a baby quilt WIP - fingers crossed, more to show soon!
Knock-knock at the door this morning - a lovely bundle of Bungle Jungle fat-quarters. Of course a future quilt for Nate.

Another pic of our gorgeous little boy - 5 weeks old today and I am missing out on watching him grow. Never mind, the little family are all well, healthy and happy - bless them!
Oopsy, smashed big toe! I had the big glass rotating plate from the microwave fall on it - so proud, I didn't swear - well, not too badly, LOL! I should have it x-rayed today, but think I will stitch instead.
I'm having quite a bit of trouble with Blogger these days - maybe the blame is being cast in the wrong direction - I am not sure?
Also, I would love to see pics of the Melbourne Show winners - so if anyone can let me know where they might be on the internet, I would really appreciate. Quite a few girls from my local quilt group flew over, so it will be lovely to catch up for the show and tell!
For now, Happy Quilting - hugs - Lurline!

Back to Stitching!

What a fun day I had yesterday! Doing what I enjoy - made a lovely start on Citrus Sweet Love, first block of BOM by Treehouse Textiles and one of Australia's favourites, Cathy of Cabbage Quilts!
Gorgeous to play with these prints, accuracy needed on seam allowance - I set my Janome 6600 on 4.7 to achieve the desired scant .25" seam allowance and I also pressed all my seams open. This is a bit more time consuming, but achieves a lovely finish when dealing with 1.5" cuts.

Back to my other world - here's our gorgeous Nate, probably 5 days old after he had come out of the humicrib and in a special nursery - I took this pic through a viewing glass as I still wasn't allowed in to see him. It was only the second time I had seen him - they did allow me a glimpse when I first arrived.
At home with the little quilt I madce for him covering him - it's not showing up too well. Do I think he's the bees knees? - of course I do, lol!
I may have mentioned Aaron is a fabulous cook - this dish is Larb Kai - ground chicken, warm salad with lots of beautiful fresh herbs, served with eggplant, cucumber, snake beans and sticky rice. I'm not a great rice fan so I ate mine San Choy Bow style in lettuce leaves, the gorgeous juices running everywhere. Oh, I must have some lunch, my mouth is watering.
Have a happy Sunday!

Nate!

Our beautiful new baby - yes, I'm home again, sadly leaving my little family in Thailand. Nate was born 19 June and had a struggle to start life in this big, wide world - when I left on Monday, he was home, happily progressing, loving and needing attention, very healthy appetite, a perfectly normal little fellow. As the aircraft started its descent into Perth airport the tears started to flow!

I have lots of really beautiful pics, but have had difficulty downloading - so have lots to show in time to come.
There is so much natural beauty in Thailand and DS is a plant lover - this was snapped on our visit to a plant market, no, we didn't buy it, lol!
Upon my return there was lots of mail to open - this particular one the first of BOM Bring Me Flowers. I didn't do very much stitching at all while away and have spent time since arriving home catching up with family here - today, the start of tidy-up and unpacking. Let's hope the weekend brings stitching time.
I've enjoyed catching up with lots of blog news while away - hope you are all having a happy day today!

For Our New Baby!

No, he is not here yet - hopefully very soon, as DS, Aaron is in Thailand with Ooy and I will fly next Friday. As you would expect, I'm anxious and excited. They visit the doctor tomorrow, so maybe some news soon.

His nibs finished quilt - well almost finished - binding to be stitched, which is one off my in-flight projects.
All washed and ready to hold a little bundle of joy. Beautiful soft Yuwa and Emma Louise, it has  turned out very soft and cuddly.
The last of my roses, as pruning time has come around. It is quite cold here during the nights and we are having gorgeous, sunny days. This is our wet season, so rain must be on its way.
I've been having a lot of trouble with Anonymous Posts and consequently Emails, so if anyone has suggestions, please let me know! On the Blog Scene, what is the latest news on Google+ and will we be affected - that's those of us using Blogger - again, please help!
Back to the Studio - there's a big tidying session under way. Not my scene at all, but will be lovely to come home to.
Happy day!

Exciting News for Blogland!

Best of Show, Sydney, 2013! Janet Treen of Quiltsalott! I am probably being a bit naughty, but I'm so excited for Janet and I'm sure this will thrill you all. Her quilt has been on Facebook with the news, so it is hot off the press. Congratulations Janet - we who know her well know what a Master Quilter this girl is and she certainly deserves this wonderful honour for Ring of Roses!

I clapped my hands when I read Facebook - I'm excited but not surprised - I told her she would win!

This is one of her current Posts - another winner?

Slowly Steaming Ahead!

Hello, Lovelies! Seven blocks prepared to take to Thailand - as you know, applique yet to be done on most. So far, I'm thrilled - I have redone quite a few as the backgrounds were far too busy and I'm kind of chuffed with this quilt - I think it will get over the finish line, lol!

Roses top left - Seduction, I'm sure, naughty but nice! Bottom right,Village Green by Carolyn Gavin for P&B Textiles, just a yard of whimsy Now that was ordered a little while ago, so far, I've stayed true to my word, but maybe promises are to be broken soon,  as I hope to take a little road trip Tuesday.

Our little one in Thailand is restless, sounds like he wants to come into this big wide world - dear son flies next Tuesday - let's hope and pray Aaron is there for both of them. I'm so excited, nearly jumping out of my skin - I have chosen the name Lincoln - now don't laugh - if it is good enough for Wally Lewis, it is good enough for me, not that I will have any say at all!

I have lots to do in the days ahead and still not 100%, but look I'm so lucky, there is so much sadness out there. For now ...

Pottering About!

Yes, that's what I am doing, with fabric I mean! And look at this beautiful large floral that came in the mail yesterday - Amy Butler Alchemy Sketchbook in Spring - oh, I hope it shows up nicely on your screen. Just so beautiful, 2 yards and I don't know what for, lol!

Dam! I haven't been at all well - again!! Suffering with cabin-fever, flu and asthma - hope I can make it to my local patchwork group tomorrow!
Still working on my x and + and feel inspired. It is so much easier to match seams with my Janome 6600, yes, it is a nice machine, very nice.
See in the background far left, I have started preparing fabrics for my appliqued Steam Punk - I will continue setting up further at patchwork tomorrow (the Eternal Optimist!).  My thoughts are to get lots prepared and stitch while I am in Thailand.

I am waiting on a few little parcels to arrive and then I have promised myself 'no more buying until 2015' - a tall order and I am sure I won't be able to fulfil it. In that studio I have a Scrap Quilters Heaven! Oh, notice the red Kerchief Girls in the far back, I'm using this piece as a background for a Punk block, sooo precious these days and I do have a little more red and blue, for special occasions. Happy Day!

A Little Bit of Japanese!

Back to the x and + blocks - I meant to post this a day or so ago! I really do love these sooo much, but really find them quite fiddly - maybe 7 different fabrics per block. I have decided to aim for one per day, or maybe at least cut fabrics for one.

I have done a re-start after deciding the others looked a little dark for my liking and also some were quite inaccurate - I had lost my incentive to carry on.

Our State Quilt Exhibition is on at the moment, some beautiful quilts in QuiltWest - however, I took some lousy photos, but will do a re-hash and come up with something decent to show.

I bought some lovely fabrics - the Japanese on the left from an Australian market stall BeBe Bold and those on
the right arriving from the US yesterday
I am getting a nice little stash of Japanese fabrics. I have some great fabrics for Steam Punk with this addition.

Blogger is being unkind, I have lost my signature again and text down the right hand side of the pic???
Happy day everyone - hugs - Lurline!

Hidden Treasures!

It is amazing what happens given motivation! I have been carrying on with Steam Punk, but saw some great fabric that may suit this quilt - Whirlygig by Sarah Feilke, from her book from little things ..... I had previously arranged the stems, so it was fun to collect some fabrics for the centre flower. And boy, did I find some interesting fabrics and some WIP's too!

My long lost Dresden Plate for which I have done a tutorial - see my side bar - and a similar one in Thirties fabrics was also in the latest issue of Down Under Quilts - the tutorial is featured also! I have a little worry at times that I have lost my touch - I really think my time factor has changed that's all, so I feel good, lol! I was going to make this into a cushion, just thinking though, could be a nice medallion to a simple Kaffe Quilt.
And so to my long lost x and + blocks - look, just one more needed to make nine, then maybe a nice little small quilt. I would love the time and motivation to carry on to at least make a lap quilt, who knows?
Let's hope you've all had a lovely weekend - and Perth Girls, remember QuiltWest starts next Wednesday, best wishes to all entrants!
