Girly Quilt!

 All finished - for whom? One day a little girl will come along and this quilt will keep her warm and happy. And it has been so lovely to play with while making it!

 All little scraps that somehow just work and I have hand-quilted it using Presencia Finca Perle 8 thread. My fingers are itching to get on the go again, another big-stitch quilted project is a must. Whoohoo! A little light bulb has just gone on - now it wouldn't take much to whip up a little mug-rug with Christmas just around the corner.

I have been so slack with posting lately, though I must admit I still do lots of blog-reading - lots of beautiful projects happening out there.

Spring Has Sprung!

Shock, horror - yes, it's me! Lovely to be back after my unplanned blog break - absolutely no reason, it just happened!

 Yes, it is so lovely to have some warmer weather - talking about weather, I pray for the safety of dear friends on the east coast of USA, lets hope that nasty storm somehow goes out to sea. Don't you just love these gorgeous Seduction roses that belong to a dear friend here - Carole, your garden is just delightful!

These pics are back to front, never mind - I've started a new project by Sarah Feilke from her book From Little Things ....!   Mary, from Molly Flanders inspired me with her fabric choice, do pop over and have a look, beautiful! I think mine will be slow work as I have lots of other things on my plate.

 I went to Perth Modern Quilt Guild yesterday - thank you Girls for the lovely welcome! Wow, did they ever have some great projects under way. At the moment they are working on a challenge of making mug rugs from solids based on their logo. I whipped up a mug rug from an orphan block not knowing the full story - so now I do have a mug rug of my own at least, lol - it will be lovely to take to stitching groups.
Oopsy, new Blogger really doesn't like me! I have started experimenting with little zipper purses to gift with Christmas coming up - here's my first attempt, sort of okay and my pretty seduction roses, though humble my garden is! Let's see what happens when I sign off, which I must do - Mother to Doctor for a checkup this afternoon. For now, happy stitching!
                               

Zig-Zag Blocks!

This has been quite a productive week - well, for me anyway. Big footy finals here this weekend - I'm not a big fan, though I do like NRL, only because of the Broncos, stirs up lovely memories of my home  state, Queensland. So, I am spending time on my quilting!

This is falling into place beautifully - great fun pulling out all the pretty fabrics from my stash. I'm sure I won't have to buy more fabrics for this project, though you know I would if I had to, tee hee! The block are 9" finished, so perhaps finished quilt will be 54" x 63", we'll see! I don't do really big quilts because of body limitations and they taker too long to do anyhow!

Elina has come into my life - a little cheapie, but she is very nice, shame she's missing built-in scissors. She does pack a wee bit of weight, but not too bad - my Big Girl, Janome Memorycraft 6600 is just gorgeous, but too heavy to transport. If I didn't have the Janome, I think I could live with just Elina.

I am now going to have a glass of wine and pop on my iPad to say hello to you Lovelies who commented on my last Post. Happy weekend and may your footy team win, lol!

A New Project!

'Another!' I can hear you say - not too many finishes, but life doesn't get boring, lol! I think a lot of us are the same. This time I feel pretty certain I have plenty of the right kind of fabrics in my stash and the weather is warming up so definitely stitching time.

I am using the new interface, so far so good! I don't think I have this laid out correctly, will think about it tomorrow. Inspiration has come from The Root Connection, Painted Zig-Zag Tutorial. Thank goodness I have a few days ahead without commitments - I just might have the time to make sure I am on the right track!

Low Volume Swap Squares!

Things are very slow on the stitching game - here's my 5" squares all cut and ready to be posted!It is a very beautiful day here today - so nice to have warm, sunshiney weather. Maybe, just maybe it will spur me on to get onto my stitching. I do have a new project in mind, and oh, goodness all those WIP's! Hope you are all enjoying your days, too!

Swaps - Triangle and Low Volume!

Back again with a little less frustration with Blogger! All Australian today, thank goodness.

Here's my 30+ Blue Triangles - I posted about the Swap a little while ago. My Girlfriends! and I are doing it on a monthly basis in the following colours: Blue, Green, Gold, Red and Purple. A nice idea!Here are the two fabric I have chosen for the Low Volume Swap. I certainly hope they meet the criteria - now they have to be cut into 5" squares and posted to the US. Just now I am going to put the badge on my sidebar - it is so long since I have done one, let's see if I can work it out.
I did have a little fiddle to get things back to normal on my blog - I had to right some wrongs and toss out some gremlins, I'm not looking forward to the new interface.

There is a lovely sewing retreat on this weekend coming, so it is off to do a bit of shopping for goodies. Lots of fabrics are waiting to be packed - how much will get stitched is the thing - I do tend to chatter a bit when with the girls - so much of my life is given to my family, that it is a bit of a thrill to be frivolous. I must take some bubbles, too - there are some things we just can't do without, lol!

Flimsy!

I really don't know where I am at or what I am doing! Blogger converted me to Chinese, of which I have no knowledge - and then I think he's converted me to the new interface too - I have my fingers and toes crossed that I will be able to post this message. Oopsy! I just lost my pic then and also my signature - looks like I have a bit of studying to do.

I am not sure of the fate of this pretty quilt. As I said, DD loves it, so we'll see. I'm rather happy with the way it has turned out - yes, the neutral blocks have counteracted the brights beautifully.

This is hard-going not knowing what I am doing, so maybe I should spend a bit of time at the sewing machine, then do a bit of research, maybe I can find the old interface, now wouldn't that be lovely. This is not looking so good being automatically centred, and I'm so sorry it is so long since I have posted and there's a few replies I haven't made  ...  so it's ciao for now - hugs, Lurline.

Half Square Triangles!

This project will be a lot of fun. Our Girlfriends! group is doing a swap - half square triangles, in blue, green, yellow,red, maybe purple and I forget what else, what a ding-a-ling! I think we make 32 of each colour, shaded light and dark - get the idea?Now, they are 4 inch finished, meaning our handovers for the swap will be will be 4.5 inch squares. Sounds a lot of work? No not really, I haven't tried this method before and am I ever impressed. I used two 10 inch squares, one light, one dark, right sides together. I ruled lines on the diagonal, with a scant quarter inch each side and then lines on the halves horizontally and vertically. The only lines I stitched were the original diagonals.

Then I cut on those lines as well as the horizontal and vertical - this give me 8 triangle right sides together making 8 squares.
I then pressed the seam towards the darker colour. This allowed me a smidgen to trim square to an accurate 4.5 inches. I always like to have that little bit extra to allow for accuracy and neatness. Hope you can get the idea, as it is really worth a try! Gee, that limey green is really trying to be yellow.
I haven't had a chance to finish my flimsy of the colourful butterfly quilt, but really have only a small amount of work to do - Angela, DD, loves it, oh what to do?

There's quite a few nice social events on the horizon and I'm really madly hoping I can participate - if I can't, I will just have to buy more new fabric to soak up the tears. Happy stitching.

Will It Work ???

That is the question - and I'm about to get an answer!Love the main fabric, love the butterflies - only the brave hearted would throw them together. lol! By the end of the day I will be very happy or very sad. I really would like a new quilt to hang on my family room wall, so it will be lapsize only, kind of instant gratification, but the big question mark is still there!

Scandinavian Rose!

This will bring back memories! In the 'olden' days we were taught embroidery in 'Prep' - it was done on sewing cards. Then, of course, in my late teens, I had enough doyleys in my glory box to cover every nook and cranny! Oh, this is a bit embarrassing - today young women would be reading Fifty Shades of Grey instead of doing satin stitch, lol!I am big fan of Rosalie Quinlan and couldn't pass this gorgeous creation - I really love it! I intend plodding along and making it a family heirloom - progress will be slow.

Sometimes I think I need a bomb under me - I have been fiddling with my blog, while doing a bit of secret handwork. I still haven't jumped over to the new interface - scaredy cat! Who can give me a bit of encouragement.
